Boarding

While you vacation or travel, we invite your bunny(ies) to vacation with us.

Small animal boarding for pets other than bunnies is also available on a limited basis. Please inquire for details.

Our bunny boarding space consists of ~400 sq ft inside our family home. The space includes a constantly running air purifier and AC is provided to keep the bunnies cool on warm days.

Each bunny or bonded pair* will have their own 4’x4′ playpen with a solid laminate floor. We will provide hay (timothy or orchard grass), a litter box & litter, organic greens (if your bunny is already consuming raw veggies on a regular basis), and cardboard boxes to keep your bunny(ies) entertained. You only need to bring your bunny and enough feed pellets for the duration of their stay.

We encourage familiar items (such as litter boxes, tunnels, favorite treats/toys, blankets, huts, etc.) to be dropped off with your bunny, as sometimes bunnies can become homesick and familiar items can help them adjust more quickly. These items are not critically necessary, and it is entirely up to you on which items you want to leave with us.

We are fairly flexible with short notice, as well as pick-up and drop-off times. Because our boarding pens are spaceous, we have limited availability and encourage reaching out early to reserve space.

If you choose to board with us, we will require basic information about your bunny(ies), a short summary of their day, any health/behavior concerns and contact information for bun parents and vets.

In the case of an emergency during boarding, we will reach out to bun parents first to share observations/concerns and attempt to obtain permission prior to making any trips to a vet. If we are unable to reach bun parents timely and feel emergency care is necessary, we will proceed with our best judgement. Please be aware that the financial responsibility for any vet visits initiated by us will be the responsibility of the bunny owner.

We would love to free roam your bunny(ies) while they stay with us; however, this is not practical or safe. Boarded bunnies will not use common areas (such as play areas with castles and tunnels that are beautiful for marketing purposes but not safe for your bunny) while in our care. It is impossible to keep common areas with wood and fabric components completely disinfected in between use by multiple bunnies; allowing your bunnies to free roam in an area that is not 100% disinfected can lead to cross contamination, which can result in illnesses, parasites, etc. Each of our playpens for boarded bunnies is 4’x4′, providing your bunnies with 16 sq ft of space; while this is not comparable to the amount of space your free roam bunny likely has access to at home, we equate this space to the coziness of a hotel room that humans are limited to while on vacation (even though the home they live in is likely significantly larger).

Boarded bunnies will not socialize with bunnies that they did not come to our home with. In other words, your bunny(ies) will only come in physical contact with your bunny(ies). Unlike other animals, rabbits cannot have “playdates” with other rabbits that they have not been previously bonded with; this is both due to the risk of fighting (that can lead to injuries) and, once again, exposure to illnesses, parasites, etc. that other rabbits may be carriers of. Our playpens are equipped with 48″-high walls to prevent unsupervised escapes and there is space between playpens so bunnies can see their boarded neighbors, but cannot reach them through the spaces in between playpen spokes.

Please contact us via email (oba.rabbitry@yahoo.com) or Instagram direct message to inquire about pricing and availability. Please note:

  • More than two bonded rabbits per playpen will incur an additional daily fee of $10 per rabbit.
  • If your bunnies are not bonded and will require more than one playpen, we charge an additional fee of $10 per day per playpen with the purchase of the first playpen at our regular boarding rates.
  • Additional services (nails trims, grooming, medication administration) will incur $10-$15 per rabbit per occurrence. Please let us know in advance if special care will be required.
  • Rabbits that are not bonded cannot share the same playpen. If you are interested in bonding services, please inquire about this separately.

*Bunnies must be litter trained in order to be housed in a playpen. If your bunny is not litter trained, please let us know when you inquire.
